Patient Safety
The health plan evaluates, monitors, and promotes patient safety through the distribution of information to members and practitioners about clinical safety issues, and by focusing on safety via a number of its quality improvement activities. These activities include the medical record documentation survey, monitoring continuity and coordination of care, and monitoring pharmaceutical practices. In addition, the health plan supports the initiatives developed by the Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Group, sponsored by a national association of Fortune 500 chief executive officers, has developed initiatives to improve and promote patient safety such as using computer physician order entry systems, focusing on evidence-based hospital referrals, and improving the quality of ICU physician staffing.
