Quality Management Programs and Evaluation
UniCare is committed to providing quality health care benefits and excellent service to all of its customers. To accomplish this, UniCare partners with independently contracted physicians, hospitals, and other health care clinicians to support the provision of quality care, and seeks continuous improvement in its service processes. The overall quality management program is regularly monitored by health plan committees as well as senior staff, and is based on a systematic, objective, and multidisciplinary approach.
Highlights for our HMO program in the past year include:
- Three active, ongoing programs in disease management (asthma, diabetes, and coronary artery disease)
- Collaboration with Magellan Behavioral Health (for Illinois and Indiana members) and IRG (for Texas members) to provide condition-focused programs (assessment for postpartum depression, attention deficit disorder)
- Completion of the Health Plan Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS) data collection process
- Pharmacy initiatives
- Interventions to improve childhood immunization rates, mammography and Pap smear testing, and appropriate postpartum care
- Interventions to improve disease-specific measures for comprehensive diabetes care and follow-up after psychiatric hospitalization
- Activities to improve member satisfaction in response to the Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey (CAHPS) results
- Activities to improve member satisfaction in response to input received by the health plan from members as part of the inquiry and complaint process (for both HMO and PPO members)
